On the morning of Wednesday, November 10, City of Bothell Councilmembers, staff and veterans, humbly gathered at the corner of Pop Keeney Stadium's parking lot near downtown Bothell to celebrate the official unveiling of Veterans Memorial Drive.
Veterans Memorial Drive, also known as NE 188th St., was renamed to thank all of the brave men and women, and their families, who have served our country.
Northshore School District (NSD) graduates and veterans, Jim Morrison and Parl Guthrie, proposed the renaming to Council earlier this year and worked closely with City staff to turn their vision into reality.
“Thank you, City of Bothell, City Council, the Public Works Department and everyone else who was involved in this project,” Guthrie shared. “By adding the name Veterans Memorial Drive to the street that runs parallel to the Northshore Memorial, it says we will never forget the sacrifices that were made for our country.”
Guthrie and Morrison also spearheaded the creation of Northshore Veterans Memorial, located at Pop Keeney Stadium. The beautifully crafted granite memorial features the names of all nineteen Northshore School District students who died in the line of duty. Two of the individuals listed were fellow 1964 classmates of Morrison and Guthrie, having served alongside them in in Vietnam.
Please join City of Bothell this Veterans Day to thank and honor all those who have selflessly served and sacrificed to protect our freedoms.
