Salary Commission

Purpose

The Salary Commission evaluates the full compensation including salaries and benefits for City Council members and has the responsibility for determining any potential changes to the existing salary structure for this legislative body. For more information please visit Bothell Municipal Code 2.92 Council Salary Commission

Board Overview

The City of Bothell established the Salary Commission in 2009.  The Commission plays a critical independent role in reviewing and recommending salary adjustments for elected officials. This work is vital to maintaining and increasing accessibility to elected office in the City of Bothell and ensuring that voters have a wide range of candidates who are dedicated to serving the community to choose from.  The Commission helps to align salaries with the responsibilities and demands of public service, ensuring that our city elected leaders are compensated in a manner that is consistent with the expectations of the Bothell community.

Full Review: The Commission will convene every other year from July 1 to October 31, beginning in 2025, for a full review of salaries paid to the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, and City Council and make recommendations about whether to increase, decrease, or make no change to Council salaries. Those interested should expect to attend bi-weekly meetings over a 90-day period within the timeline previously mentioned.

Adjustment Review: For subsequent years, the Commission may meet no more than three times in August-September to determine if any salary adjustments should be made.
