The section of Bothell Way NE between Reder Way and 240th ST SE is often heavily congested with only two lanes for vehicle traffic and few sidewalks, bike lanes, and transit amenities.
The Bothell Way NE Multimodal project will increase capacity for people driving, walking, biking, and using transit between SR 522 and 240th St SE. The project supports the extension of the Community Transit Swift Green Line from Canyon Park to the University of Washington/Cascade College campus. The project is set to include the following improvements:
- Increases the number of general-purpose lanes to four or five lanes
- Reduces travel time and increases reliability by considering intelligent transportation system improvements like traffic loops, message boards, and variable speed limit signs
- Provides pedestrian and bicycle facilities to make it easier to walk, bike, and use transit
- Improves access to bus stops
- Provides safer conditions for everyone by separating vehicles from people biking and walking; and adding other amenities like street lighting and reflective lane markings and symbols
