ADA Curb Ramps

As part of the City's Sidewalks Program and the annual Safe Streets & Sidewalks-funded Pavement Preservation Program, and in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the City constructed ADA-compliant curb ramps at several intersections along the corridors of:

  • 4th Ave. W
  • NE 192nd Pl.
  • 104th Ave. NE
  • Beardslee Blvd.
  • Brickyard Rd. NE
  • Juanita Woodinville Way NE
  • 119th Ave. NE
  • NE 160th St.

Construction included the installation of Accessible Pedestrian Systems (APS), curbs and gutters, sidewalks, signing, and striping.

Under the Pavement Preservation Program, the City used the Pavement Condition Index to identify street segments that could benefit from an asphalt overlay and repairs. The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) requires that the City meet the most current accessibility requirements along each street segment to be paved, so the existing pedestrian crossings along these streets needed to be upgraded. In addition to the curb ramps associated with the Pavement Preservation Program, other projects identified by the Sidewalk Program were included in this project.

Schedule

On April 2, 2019, the City Council awarded the construction contract for this project to Kamins Construction Inc. The contractor is expected to begin construction in late April and finish construction in July.
