The ordinance will go into effect on April 22, 2020. The City of Bothell joins 36 other jurisdictions in Washington in adopting restrictions. Retailers can provide recycled-content paper bags or reusable bags to customers. A minimum 10-cent fee, kept by the business, will be charged for full-sized paper bags. Customers using vouchers or electronics benefits cards under food assistance programs are exempt from paying the charge. The City developed a community engagement plan to help businesses and residents transition. Stay tuned for more details at bothellwa.gov/reduceplastic.
